A website can be designed to look good, but it is what is underneath the bonnet that really counts. This is where SEO comes in. You might have heard about SEO but are unsure about what is stands for and more importantly what is means for your website.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. SEO is important for all websites to determine that they get ranked by search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. The higher you rank the more visitors you will likely attract. But how do you climb the rankings? By applying good on-site and off-site techniques.
Search engines such as Google visit your website and take a deep look around. They check hundreds of different elements to give your website an internal rating of your website. This is based on a variety of factors including correct headings, titles, meta descriptions, content quality and much more.
Having a website that looks good to the user is good, however it needs to be looking good to the search engines too. Their robots don't see websites like humans do. They are robots which look at websites and examine their coding. From your coding is how they view your website. There are plenty of websites out there that look fantastic but struggle to rank for key phrases. Often this is to do with on-site SEO not being done correctly.
Now imagine you have done everything right on-site but you still are not ranking. Off-site SEO could be the issue. Search engines do not just crawl your website, but pretty much every website on the planet. What Google is looking to do is gather a popularity image about your website and company to work out whether you are popular or not. As it crawls the web and stumbles across your link it puts a tick against your website. Getting your websites in a variety of places is great and can really boost a websites ranking. Be aware though, it is easy to do off-site SEO wrong. Perhaps you decided to buy back links (oh no!!) or your website is listed in a link farm? Having a natural looking off-site SEO image is important to ensure you do not get blacklisted or penalised in the search rankings.
The importance of on-site and off-site SEO combined
Google and other search engines job is quite simple. They want to display the most relevant results to the user for their inputted query. How do they do this? They organise relevant results in order of who will provide the user the best experience. By giving a user the best experience the user is more likely to continue using the search engine, which earns the search engines revenue.
How do they organise the results? A combination of on-site and off-site SEO. Get both right and you will be laughing. Monitoring and improving your search ranking for target key phrases will improve your visibility to users and get your more visitors to your website. In turn this can create more profit.
Do we offer consultancy, training or SEO?
Yes. If you have had your website built with us we will quite happily sit down and go through an SEO strategy with you. We have many clients who are top 10 in Google for focus keywords and in turn they are seeing the benefits of this.
If you are not a website design customer with us it is unlikely we will take on your website's SEO. The reason for this as for on-site SEO the build is very important. If a website is done completely incorrectly we will likely have to spend too much time going back to fix fundamentals that should be correct. Also we find other 'SEO professionals' have often gave SEO a go and laid out off-site SEO back links which have made performing SEO harder than usual. When we have built something we know every aspect of it therefore it is more streamlined for us to perform SEO properly with expected results.
Although we do SEO, we also teach it. We can arrange 1-to-1 SEO training in Essex to teach you or your team about the fundamentals of SEO. This is usually a day course going from the basics, right up to advanced techniques and SEO monitoring techniques. Pricing is usually £300 however is subject to the amount of team member's you want taught. Sometimes with larger classes things can overrun and take two days of time.
If you have any questions about SEO or SEO training just give us a call on 01375 405935 or 07969 281598.
